The drivers are usually manageable through the Device Manager, various actions like updating, rolling back, and uninstalling the drivers can be executed from here.
However, many users have reported that when trying to access the HID-compliant touch screen driver from Device manager, the driver is missing and the device is not listed under HID settings. This can be attributed to many factors, but it is possible that some recent change you made to your device uninstalled and deleted the driver from your device.
Here I shall discuss how you can reinstall the HID-compliant touch screen device using some easy methods.
Solution 1: Enable Hidden Devices
If you disabled the touch screen input for your device, there is a chance that Windows decided to hide the touch screen. Firstly, make sure that the device is not hidden from the device manager. It is actually a very easy action to perform, and you can do so from within the device manager itself by following these steps:

- Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter to launch the device manager.
- Navigate to the View tab and click on it.

Solution 2: Reinstall HID Compliant Touch Screen Driver
There is always a possibility that the driver was never installed, or it was deleted when you disabled it. The device cannot be enabled again unless you install the drivers again.
In Windows 10, the driver updates are handled by Windows Updates itself. So, update your Windows device to the latest build and check if the appropriate drivers are installed.
If updating your Windows did not help you, you might try to download the appropriate drivers from the manufacturer’s website. You will find the ‘touch firmware update tool’ for Windows 10 in the ‘Downloads’ page of major hardware manufacturers’ website.
Once you download the tool, you can either directly run it, or select Update drivers from the Device manager.
Solution 3: Remove Unwanted Drivers
Windows will store the drivers of the hardware that you do not use any more. This is done so that you do not have to install the drivers again the nxt time you plug in your device. These extra devices are called ghost devices, and can sometimes cause compatibility issues or interfere with your other devices.
- Open an elevated command prompt. To do so, open a Run window by pressing Win + R, type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to launch Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
- Type the following command and press Enter to enable the viewing of hidden devices to appear in the Device manager:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
- Next, in a Run window type devmgmt.msc and press Enter to launch the Device Manager.
- Inside the Device Manager, from the View menu, select Show Hidden Devices.

Touch drivers can be installed onto a Windows Embedded system using either Direct Image Integration or Existing Operating System (Manual) Installation:
- Manual Installation: it may be possible to install the touch driver onto an existing Windows Embedded machine using the standard Windows driver installer. This requires a system with writable media and with write filters properly configured. The installer also requires several Windows components which might be missing on an embedded system.
- If you purchased a Windows Embedded system with a pre-installed operating system and the above requirements are met, choose this driver.
- Direct Image Integration: the driver is integrated with the system image using Windows Embedded Studio or Image Configuration Editor tool set, then the system image is loaded onto the device. This is the preferred installation method, but it requires knowledge of the integration tool set.
- If you are creating a custom system image or have the tools to modify your current image, choose this driver.
